Description

NGC 1433 is a spiral galaxy in the Horologium constellation, around 46 million light years from earth.

⁣What's interesting about this specific galaxy is that it's labelled as a so called "Seyfert galaxy". So what is a Seyfert galaxy?⁣

Seyfert galaxies were named after American astronomer Carl K. Seyfert, who brought up the idea in 1944. They're in essence any galaxy with a very active and bright core region that emits strongly in just about all light and radio frequencies. The exact reason for this is not entirely clear yet; but supermassive black holes in said central regions seem to play a role.
